It's not clear that what they're selling is Alarm.com

Frontpoint uses Alarm.com just like we do. But you won't find that advertised anywhere on their website. You get the same type of Alarm.com security and smart home services from Surety that you get from Frontpoint.¹ The difference is we're open about it and we charge a lot less.

Hard to tell price and contract length without talking to sales

It's not easy to see what you're going to pay per month on their website. They have a plans page but it can be hard to find. Their focus is on the low cost to get started. Misleading claims about features and uniqueness

Reading the Frontpoint website, you might get the impression that they're the only company with Alarm.com crash and smash protection, or cellular communication, encryption, or an easy DIY setup. We have those too. They even claim to have "bank-grade encryption" when the sensors they sell (made by Alula) only transmit unencrypted wireless signals and are therefore vulnerable to hacking/spoofing!<sup>1

Initial low pricing on proprietary hardware locks you in

Frontpoint offers getting started for less than $100 up front. That's low but it doesn't mean much unless you look at total cost of ownership.

High monthly monitoring fees required to use the hardware

Frontpoint's monitoring plans range from $35/month for basic monitoring to $50/month for home automaton and video which are relatively high prices for self-installed Alarm.com service. However, once you've invested in their proprietary equipment you don't have much choice.

Total cost of ownership is much higher in the long run
