with emergency medical dispatch
Most falls happen when no one is there. A medical alert pendant only fires when your loved one presses it, which is exactly when they may not be able to. Surety wellness monitoring, powered by Alarm.com Wellness, watches over daily routines passively and alerts your family when something seems off, whether or not anyone pressed a button. Cameras and wearable pendants are available for families that want them, but the core monitoring works without either.
Wellness Notifications
The system learns each person's individual patterns and alerts your family when genuine deviations occur, not based on one-size-fits-all thresholds.
Personal Emergency
Your loved one presses a panic button or pendant and an alert is sent immediately to your family. Pair this with optional professional monitoring for 24/7 emergency dispatch.
Unexpected Activity
Activity is detected at a time or in a location that falls outside your loved one's learned routine, a signal that something may be behaviorally off.
Up and About
No activity detected for longer than expected during waking hours. The primary passive catch for falls and incapacitation, no button press required from your loved one.
Away From Bed
The bed sensor shows it's unoccupied at an unusual hour, capturing nighttime wandering that could indicate confusion or disorientation.
Still in Bed
Your loved one hasn't gotten up by their expected time. Flags illness, a fall getting out of bed, or a cognitive episode before it goes unnoticed for hours.
Missed Medication
A medication cabinet or pill organizer sensor wasn't activated during the expected window. Get notified before a missed dose goes unnoticed.
Safe Inside
Confirms your loved one is up and moving around the home without requiring a phone call or physical check, a quiet, low-disruption welfare check.
Sensor Activity
A notification fires the moment a specific sensor activates, useful for granular monitoring like knowing the front door opened, the kitchen was entered, or the bathroom was visited.
Sensor Closed or Occupied
Confirms expected behaviors: your loved one has settled into bed, sat down in their chair, or a monitored door has closed as it should.
Sensor Left Closed or Occupied
Your loved one has been in bed, in their chair, or in a room longer than expected, flagging situations where they may be unable to get up independently.
Sensor Left Open or Vacant
A monitored door has been left open, or the bed has gone unoccupied longer than expected, useful for detecting if a loved one has left and not returned.
More Than a Medical Alert Pendant
A pendant only fires one kind of alert: your loved one pressed the button. Surety wellness monitoring fires eleven, most of them automatically. The critical difference is what happens when they cannot press anything.
| Medical Alert Pendant | Surety Wellness Monitoring | |
|---|---|---|
| Catches emergencies when they cannot press a button | No | Yes, via passive activity monitoring |
| Number of alert types | 1 (button press only) | 11 |
| Alerts that require no action from your loved one | 0 | 10 of 11 |
| Learns their individual routine and baseline | No | Yes |
| Detects missed medications | No | Yes |
| Detects nighttime wandering | No | Yes |
| Includes a home security alarm | No | Yes, every plan |
| Contract required | Typically yes | No, month to month |
Daily Insights
Beyond individual alerts, the system builds a long-term picture of your loved one's wellbeing, patterns you can check any time through the Alarm.com app.
Sleep Patterns
Total sleep time, bedtime, and wake time tracked nightly, so gradual changes in sleep health are visible before they become a problem.
Activity Levels
Kitchen visits, movement around the home, time spent in different rooms, a day-by-day picture of overall energy and engagement.
Bathroom Visit Patterns
Unusually frequent nighttime bathroom visits can be an early UTI indicator. The system tracks these passively and alerts you when patterns shift significantly.
Medication Compliance
Whether the medication cabinet is opened at the right times each day, simple contact sensor visibility into one of the most important aspects of independent living.
Entries and Exits
When your loved one leaves the home and returns. Unusual exit times or an absence that runs longer than expected triggers a notification to your family.
No Cameras Required
The core monitoring uses motion sensors, door/window contacts, and occupancy sensors, no cameras required. Cameras are available as an optional addition for families who want them.
"The system learned that Mom always makes coffee by 8am. When it was 10am and the kitchen sensor hadn't fired, we knew something was wrong before she even called us."

Emergency Response Options
Passive monitoring catches problems early. These options make sure help arrives fast when it counts.
Personal Emergency Pendant
A small wearable button your loved one can press at any time to trigger an immediate alert, no smartphone needed. Unlike passive sensors that detect patterns, the pendant gives your loved one direct control to call for help the moment something is wrong. Alerts route to your family's phones instantly. When combined with professional monitoring, pressing the pendant can also dispatch emergency medical services directly.
Professional Monitoring with Medical Dispatch
For an additional $5/month, trained agents are available 24/7 to respond when an alarm is triggered, including pendant presses and security alarms. If an agent can't reach your loved one or your family, they dispatch emergency medical services, fire, or police directly to the home. A professional safety net for nights, weekends, or any moment when your family can't respond quickly enough on their own.

Common Questions
Does my loved one need to wear anything?
Not necessarily. The passive monitoring works entirely through sensors placed around the home (motion detectors, door and window contacts, and occupancy sensors) with no wearables or cameras required. Your loved one simply lives their normal life. That said, an optional pendant is available for those who want to be able to actively call for help, and cameras can be added for families who want visual coverage in addition to the sensor-based monitoring.
Will my loved one know they're being monitored?
The sensors are the same ones used for home security, small and unobtrusive. The system monitors patterns, not people, so there's no sense of being watched. Most families find it helpful to have an honest conversation with their loved one about how it works, framing it as a shared safety net rather than surveillance.
What happens when I get an alert?
You'll receive a push notification through the Alarm.com app. You decide what to do: call your loved one, contact a neighbor, or drive over. If you've added professional monitoring, trained agents can also dispatch emergency services when an alarm is triggered.
How long does setup take?
Most families complete the full setup in a few hours on a weekend. Sensors are wireless and use adhesive mounts, no drilling required for most placements. The Alarm.com app guides you through pairing each device. Wellness monitoring then begins learning your loved one's routines over the first few days.
Can other family members receive the alerts too?
Yes. Multiple family members can be added to the Alarm.com account and each configure their own notification preferences. One sibling might want every alert while another only wants to hear about emergencies, everyone can set their own thresholds.
