Is there any way to do an HTTP get or utilize IFTTT when an event happens (alarm, motion event, etc)? Mainly, i’d like to trigger a 3rd party camera system when an alarm.com compatible PIR sensor is fired.

Currently, http://www.alarm.com interface doesn’t seem to have these capabilities. I have a 2gig GC3… not sure if that device can do it directly.

Seems like this is something that is critically missing…. basically, the ability to tie different systems together by a simple call like http:192.168.1.100:8080:/cam/1/trigger (totally made up http, but you get the idea).

Any thoughts? Only thing I can think of is to buy another system like a smartthings or vera hub or whatever and have it do it what the GC3/alarm.com should already be able to do.

Overall, as a closed security system with its own cloud video component, unfortunately I do not anticipate seeing IFTTT used by Alarm.com in the foreseeable future. I could not say for certain of course, and we are happy to send this as an enhancement request to Alarm.com.

We could not provide direct support for non-Alarm.com compatible products, but one way to do that would be to use a wired PIR. There are two benefits to this: directly wire the PIR to the DVR/NVR input so that triggers have zero latency, and a wired PIR has no power save delay like battery operated ones and can constantly trigger clips as long as there is motion triggering the detector. The PIR could then be wired to a DW10 to use as a wireless transmitter to your GC3.

Another option would be to wire the Open Collector outputs on the GC3 to the trigger input on the DVR/NVR. The Open Collectors can then be programmed to activate on specific circumstances like alarms, entry delay, etc.

Obviously both of these require running cabling between devices, so it is not as easy to do, but is the best way to handle a direct third party surveillance system integration.

Thanks Warren, really appreciate the input. IFTTT would probably be so laggy that it wouldn’t work anyways…. but if alarm.com would support an action of http get, that would likely work. But alas…

Anyways, a hardwired PIR sensor would be amazing, I would love to rig all my cams to one and then also tie them into GC3 via DW10’s as you rec’d. Of course, the pain is doing the hardwiring.

Another viable option is to utilize the POE cables that are already running to the cams and do something like this:

… but that latter option won’t integrate with GC3/alarm.com. Sigh. Anyways, thanks!

If you are powering both the camera and a hardwired PIR off of this I don’t see why you couldn’t add a DW10 and connect it to your GC3.
