Garage Tilt Sensor Compatibility with Qolsys IQ Panel

Jason / all; We installed with Jason’s help a Qolsys IQ Panel: QS-9004VRZ that we believe is Z-Wave compatible. We want to add a Tilt Sensor and have chosen the Z-Wave Plus Gold Plated Reliability Garage Door Tilt Sensor, White (TILT-ZWAVE2.5-ECO).

Upon attempting to install the sensor, during pairing mode, the sensor is detected at a type: thermometer, ID: 24 and after a custom rename, successfully pairs. That’s when the problem starts; when testing the sensor per instructions -holding upright then turning the sensor upside down with the correct sensor light indication, there’s no indication by the Qolsys IQ Panel status or log of any tile indication.

  1. Do I have a compatibility issue between the Qolsys IQ Panel and the ZWAVE2.5-ECO?
  2. The sensor is detected as a thermometer and not a tilt sensor. Any ideas?
  3. Do you have another recommendation for a tilt sensor?

Thanks for any help.

Do I have a compatibility issue between the Qolsys IQ Panel and the ZWAVE2.5-ECO?

Yes, this is a compatibility issue, but it is not unique to Qolsys. No Z-wave tilt sensor would work. Z-wave is not used for life safety or security sensors with any Alarm.com compatible Alarm panels currently. Qolsys uses GE 319.5 mhz sensors for life safety and security sensors. Z-wave is used for non-security automation (lights, t-stats, locks, etc.)

The sensor is detected as a thermometer and not a tilt sensor. Any ideas?

The device is not compatible with the panel and incorrect reporting would be expected.

Do you have another recommendation for a tilt sensor?

Qolsys has the QS1121-840 Tilt Sensor, which would probably be the best option.
